Increase Maximum File Upload Size

The default maximum file upload size for applications, such as WordPress, used on BYU Domains is 2 MB. This can be changed through the cPanel. Here is how to increase the maximum file upload size:

  1. MultiPHP Manager
  2. Switch the PHP Version to something that is not the default. For example, switch it to PHP Version 7.0
  3. Select “Switch to PHP Options” in the top right
  4. From here, you will need to change two settings to the desired sizes (there is a 128 MB maximum):
    • post_max_size
    • upload_max_filesize

Save the changes, and you will now be able to upload files that are up to 128 MB to your CMS!

If you are looking to increase the limit beyond 128 MB, there are a few things you can do:

  1. Use FTP for uploading large files. FTP does not have any limits to file size
  2. If working with WordPress, the plugin Media from FTP can be used to bring in files that are uploaded via FTP
