A permalink is the type of URL link that can be used to link to your posts. The default setting for permalinks in WordPress is to create URLs with a generated set of numbers and letters. However, Google searches work through key words. In order to make it easier to make it easier for Google to find a page, we need to go into our settings and make sure that the permalink setting is set to “Post Name” or another of setting that uses words instead of numbers.

On the Wordpress dashboard under the “Settings” tab, click on “Permalinks.”

From here, you can choose which kind of permalink you want to use - for example, /%category%/%postname/ will tell WordPress that you want the links to your posts to include the category and the title of the post. Click “Save Changes” at the bottom, and your permalink preferences will be updated.
