Backups

To protect your website content, you will need to regularly back up your information. This can be done in several different ways. you can store your backups in places like as your personal computer hard drive, a flash drive, or a CD. We recommend you keep at least three backups.

Watch the video tutorial or continue reading for written step-by-step instructions:

Complete Backup to Your Computer

Go to the “Backup” application on the BYU Domains Dashboard.

Click “Download a Full Account Backup”.

Select “Home Directory.” If your website has a great deal of content, it may take a long time to back up, So you can choose whether to have BYU Domains send you an email once it has completed the backup. Then click “Generate Backup”.

You can return to this page to view your available backups. To download your backup, click the link under “Backups Available for Download.” You can then save your data to a flash drive, email, or CD to make it more secure.

Partial Backup

You also have the option to back up your Home Directory, MySQL Database, Email Forwarders, and Email Filters separately. First go to “Backups” on the Dashboard.

Click on the individual item that you wish to download as a backup.

A box will pop up, allowing you to save the file to your computer. You can then save the file to a flash drive or CD.

Restore User Backup

To restore your website to a previous backup go to the “Backups” application.

If you want to do a complete website restoration, then go to “Restore Home Directory Backup”. Click “Choose File” to locate the backup on your computer.

Your selected file will appear to the right of the “Choose File” button. Once the correct file has been selected, click “Upload”.

Your website will then be restored.

This same process applies for partial restorations. Click “Choose File” for your desired restoration and then click “Upload.”

Backups are created on the following schedule: 1 Monthly, 2 weekly, 3 daily.

DNS Zone, Database, SSL Certificates, and E-mail are all included in the backups and can be restored individually as needed.

You may also use JetBackup to create your own custom backup of your account (Snapshot).
